Cleveland Officers Take on Light the Lakes Challenge

Cleveland Police officers joined 1500 climbers from various Forces on Friday 21st June to raise awareness of the Care of Police Survivors Charity (COPS) and to remember those officers who have died on duty.

1 Detective Inspectors Jon Tapper and Matt Hollingsworth, Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Chris Motson, Detective Sergeant Darren Wild and retired former Detective Chief Inspector Gareth White set off from Seathwaite Farm at 11:30pm and climbed the 899 metre ascent to Great Gable.

Sergeant John Sproson also participated in the challenge and climbed the 868m ascent to Blencathra with another group.

Once they all reached the top, they lit beacons at around 3am, along with over a thousand other people, and lit up the sky to pay their respects to those who have lost their lives on duty.

Care of Police Survivors is a UK registered charity dedicated to helping the families of police officers who have lost their lives on duty rebuild their lives. It aims to ensure that survivors have all the help they need to cope with such tragedy and they remain part of the police family.
