Chief Constable Mark Webster
Chief Constable Mark Webster joined Cleveland Police in April 2022.
An experienced senior leader and serious crime investigator, Chief Constable Webster has held a number of prominent top-level policing positions.
He joined Cleveland Police from Cumbria Constabulary where he was the Deputy Chief Constable and responsible for the day-to-day running of the Force.
Prior to this, Mark was the Director of Intelligence and Operations at the National Crime Agency (NCA), where he was also the strategic firearms lead and a specialist strategic firearms commander. He led and managed the NCAs investigative and covert assets, both within the UK and overseas with international partners.
Chief Constable Webster has also led on national campaigns focussed on protecting victims of child sexual exploitation, human trafficking, firearms supply and cybercrime.
Mark joined Greater Manchester Police in 1992 where he performed a number of uniformed and detective roles.
He was a senior detective in Moss Side and in Manchester city centre and gained significant experience in homicide and major crime investigation.
He was posted to the Stockport Division to deal with issues of racism and corruption that were highlighted in the BBC Panorama 'Secret Policeman' exposé. Mark joined the National Crime Squad and then transferred into the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) at its creation in 2006.
He ran SOCA's Cybercrime unit, managed the transition of specialist National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA) units into the NCA, and then went on to command those functions in addition to Armed Operations, Anti-Corruption, Technical Operations and the UK Human Trafficking Centre.
He then moved to be responsible for the NCA’s Performance, Risk and Professional Standards functions, as well as leading collaboration work between the NCA and Counter Terrorism policing.
