You must be at least 18 years old at the point of application. There is no upper age limit for appointment to the Special Constabulary, but all applicants must be physically fit enough to perform the role
Do I have to undergo a fitness test?
You will be required to undergo a fitness test as part of your pre employment, the fitness test is in the form of a bleep test.
In order to pass the fitness test, you will need to be able to achieve a level 5.4.
What is the eligibility criteria to become a Special Constable?
The basic requirements are:
You must either be a national of a country within the European Economic Area or, if not, have leave to remain in the UK free of restrictions
You must be at least 18 years old at the point of application
You should be in good health, and of good character
You must be able to speak and write English competently
Do I have to be posted where I live?
Applicants need to be aware that they will be expected to serve within the Cleveland force area. However every effort is made to take personal needs and circumstances into account where possible. It is worth noting that there will need to be a balance between personal and organisational needs.
How many hours will I be working?
Special Constables are required to work at least 16 hours per month.
Do I wear a uniform?
Yes, there is a Special Constable uniform that will be supplied during the training period.
