I write in connection with regards to your request received in this office on 17th September. I note you seek the following:
1. I would like to know how many car thefts there have been in the Cleveland area in the past three years. Any data around this time would be much appreciated.
2019/20 – 260 (to end of August)
2018/19 – 602
2017/18 – 607
2. How many of these thefts led to a conviction?
It the duty of Cleveland Police to identify, apprehend suspects, decisions regarding prosecutions is the responsibility of the Crown Prosecution Service and Convictions is that of HM Courts Service therefore Conviction data is held by HM Courts.
However we can provide how many have been charged/summonsed.
2019/20 – 12 (to end of August)
2018/19 – 46
2017/18 – 59
3. How many cars were recovered following the thefts?

2018/19 – 339
2017/18 – 373
Having made enquiries within the Force above is all the information we have been able to retrieve.
