12114 Hate crime re Gypsy
I write in connection with regards to your request received in this office on 24th July. I note you seek the following:
- The number of hate crimes reported where the victim was identified as Gypsy, Roma or Traveller. If possible, I would also like this information broken down by the ethnic group of the victim i.e. Gypsy, Roma or Traveller. I would like this information for the last five years, broken down by year i.e. 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Having made enquiries within the Force the below were identified from all the hate crimes recorded that either: the hate crime factor recorded of Romany people or Irish traveller; or found from having “gypsy”, “Roma”, or “traveller” in the MO.
2017 – White Irish
2018 – White - South European
2019 - White - North European
2020 – 2 U/K
There were no victims of hate crime recorded with a self-defined ethnicity recorded of Gypsy or Irish traveller.
