11896 Covid Stats

I write in connection with regards to your request received in this office on 24^th April.  I note you seek the following:

• How many crimes, or relevant notifiable incidents (e.g. Resist arrest), with a Police Officer or Police Staff (e.g. detention officer/PCSO etc) as a victim, have been recorded with an aggravating factor (e.g. suggested COVID:19 illness factor in assault) of COVID:19 between January 2020 and the current date?

1. a) Having made enquiries there have been five crimes of assaulting an officer where Covid19 has been tagged.

• In these instances of crimes or incidents against Police Officers and staff was an arrest made of a perpetrator?

1. a) Yes

• In cases where an arrest was made what was the listed case disposal (if known)?

1. a) Four have been charged and one is still ongoing.

• In cases where an arrest was not made what was the listed case disposal (if known)?

1. a) N/A

• What has been the gender of the perpetrator in all cases?

1. a) All males

• What has been the gender of the victim?

1. a) All males.

Having made enquiries within the Force above is all the information we have been able to retrieve and every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that these data have been extracted from a number of data sources used by forces for police purposes. The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.

The Cleveland Police response to your request is unique and it should be noted that Police Forces do not use generic systems or identical procedures to capture and record data therefore responses from Cleveland Police should not be used as a comparison with any other force response you receive.

If you are not satisfied with this response or any actions taken in dealing with your request you have the right to request an independent internal review of your case under our review procedure. The APP College of Policing guidance states that a request for internal review should be made within 20 working days of the date on this response or 40 working days if extenuating circumstances to account for the delay can be evidenced.
