I write in connection with regards to your Freedom of Information request. Below is your request and our response.
1) Please can you list the communications equipment provided to a front-line officer at the start of a shift?
Personal issued radio with clip on battery (recharge).
Personal job mobile phone.
Personal laptop.
2) How does the officer collect this equipment at the start of their shift? (Personal locker, stores, centralised collection point) can your answer detail the collection method for each piece of equipment listed in answer 1
Airwave Radio – securely locked away in locker, however for officers on call they can take home and securely store when on call.
Mobile Phone – can be taken home and stored there.
Personal laptop- can be taken home and stored there.
3) In regard to the equipment listed in question 1 please can you detail the volume and value of equipment lost for the last calendar year (2023)? Can your answer be listed by equipment type rather than in total?
Personal issued radio - 3

4) In regard to the equipment listed in question 1 please can you detail the volume and value of equipment damaged for the last calendar year (2023)? Can your answer be listed by equipment type rather than in total?

5) How are these specific items stored when not in use?
6) Do the devices listed in question 5 need to be recharged between shifts?
Yes- Airwave radio has separate batteries on charge which officers select at start of shift, BWV is on charge when not in use, Taser do not need charging but periodically requires a new battery.
7) Is there an officer or officers responsible for the security of the devices listed in question 5. Please can you provide their job titles.
Response and Neighbourhood Police Teams have allocated SPOCs per team. All local supervisors have duty to make sure devices are stored securely at a local level. Overall security would be the Information Security Manger.
The Cleveland Police response to your request is unique and it should be noted that Police Forces do not use generic systems or identical procedures to capture and record data therefore responses from Cleveland Police should not be used as a comparison with any other force response you receive.
If you are not satisfied with this response or any actions taken in dealing with your request, you have the right to request an independent internal review of your case under our review procedure. The APP College of Policing guidance states that a request for internal review should be made within 20 working days of the date on this response or 40 working days if extenuating circumstances to account for the delay can be evidenced.
