I write in connection with regards to your Freedom of Information request. Below is your request and our response.
I would like to receive information around the number of vans which have been stolen, the number of times items have been stolen from vans and the types of vans most commonly being stolen or stolen from.
To clarify, I would like to receive the following information:
How many thefts have taken place from vans: A list of all thefts where the offence category is Theft from a Motor Vehicle and the vehicle type is Van or Panel Van. Please can you provide these details broken down by the make and model of each vehicle, as well as a breakdown of the category of items stolen (e.g. Tools, equipment, personal items etc). I would like this information to cover the following time periods:
a.1st January 2024 – 31st May 2024
b.1st January 2023 – 31st December 2023
How many vans have been stolen: A list of all thefts where the offence category is Theft of a Motor vehicle and the vehicle type is Van or Panel Van. Please can you provide these details broken down by the make and model of each vehicle. I would like this information to cover the following time periods:
Please provide the information in the form of a .csv or a .xls file extension. I have attached an empty excel to show how I would prefer the data to be formatted.
The analyst has looked for all validated crimes of Theft from Vehicle in the timeframe of 01/01/2023 – 31/05/2024. The involved vehicle must be a Van or Panel Van. This has also brought back vehicles that are linked to the crimes and also the stolen property too. The manufacturer of the vehicle has been provided but the make and model are not as regularly filled in so the data isn’t available for this. The overall volume of theft from a van count how many singular crimes were recorded. The property stolen from van shows how many individual items of stolen property have been recorded. One theft from a van could link to multiple items of stolen property. The property figures below are only as accurate as the officer completing the form and therefore care should be taken to understand our return when considering the interpretation or further use of the data.
We cannot provide the value of items stolen as this isn’t reliably recorded. The stolen property might not be recorded either.
Taking a similar approach, the analyst looked at all the validated crimes of Theft of motor vehicle in the timeframe of 01/01/2023 – 31/04/2024. The involved vehicle must be a Van or Panel Van This has also brought back vehicles that are linked as stolen/recovered to the crimes. The manufacturer of the vehicle has been provided but the make and model are not as regularly filled in so the data isn’t available for this. We can only count the volume of crimes recorded, not the volume of stolen vans.
