I write in connection with regards to your Freedom of Information request. Below is your request and our response.
1a. How many complaints or reports have your force had regarding dogs being stolen in your area between the following years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, January 2024-30 September 2024?
1b. Please breakdown the figures into the respective years.
1c. Please breakdown the breed of dog in the respective years.
Answer
Having made enquiries within our Force a search was carried out on the number of crimes recorded of theft, robbery or burglary whereby a ‘dog’ or ‘puppy’ is recorded as stolen in the MO.

The above information is all that we can provide and if the owner thinks that a theft or an abduction has occurred, a crime is recorded and investigated.

The information we have for this question is unreliable as officers sometimes forget to record this detail on the role description of the animal which is used for searching. A manual search will be required to confirm the information within the record which would incur the 18-hour time limit.
