I write in connection with regards to your Freedom of Information request. Below is your request and our response. Please accept our sincere apologies for the length of time it has taken to reply.

Cleveland Police do not have a Force Policy this matter, however we are covered by Authorised Professional Practice (APP) and gives advice on the use of sirens, it states the following “may use emergency ancillary equipment when the specific circumstances warrant it (for example silent approach on route to a burglary in progress)”

Having made enquiries within the Force we do not have a policy in relation to police vehicle exceeding the speed limit, however high-speed limit exemptions are covered under the following legislation, lights and sirens are not required under legislation.

Cleveland Police follow APP guidance and current legislation on the above.
If you are not satisfied with this response or any actions taken in dealing with your request, you have the right to request an independent internal review of your case under our review procedure.
