I write in connection with regards to your Freedom of Information request. Below is your request and our response.
Your parental leave policies, including paternity and maternity leave. If you have different policies for police officers and staff, please include both separately.
Answer
We have looked at the content of your request and must advise you that we consider the Freedom of information Act 2000 Exemption 21 (Information Accessible by other means) is engaged in relation to this request this is a class based and absolute exemption, requiring no prejudice or public interest to be considered.
If you visit the Cleveland Police website, https://www.cleveland.police.uk/ and in the search function type in Parental Leave Policy it will open a page with the all the information Cleveland police publish on this matter.
1) For the most recent three years you have data, a) How many officers were eligible for paternity leave? And b) How many officers took paternity leave, and for how many weeks on average?
Answer
As of financial year end for each year, that was:
March 2022 – 1450 Officers
March 2023 – 1493 Officers
March 2024 – 1528 Officers
99 Officers took paternity leave between 1st January 2022 and 31st December 2024, taking an average of 9.6 days.
2) If you have this data, what % of officers who have resigned voluntarily over the last three years cited the impact of their job on their family as a reason?
Answer
Since November 22 (we are unable to go further back than this), Officers cited the following leaving reasons:
