I write in connection with regards to your Freedom of Information request. Below is your request and our response.
Please can you provide the following information for the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 calendar years:
1 - How many knives were seized by police following stop and search
2 - How many knives were seized by police from people aged under 18 following stop and search
3 - What type(s) of knives were seized by police from people aged under 18 following stop and search
4 - How many of each type of knives seized by police from people aged under 18 following stop and search were there
As under Section 16 of the Act, please advise on how I can amend my FOI if you cannot provide the requested information.
When we refer to knives being seized, the analyst has used the stop search data which shows how many searches resulted in a knife/bladed article being recovered (Where the bladed article is the item found from searching a person).
We do not have details of the type of knife being recovered on the stop search form (Question 3&4). it is not directly listed on the form.
The table refers to Q1 and Q2, with a breakdown of the Under 18 population who were subject to a search:

The Cleveland Police response to your request is unique and it should be noted that Police Forces do not use generic systems or identical procedures to capture and record data therefore responses from Cleveland Police should not be used as a comparison with any other force response you receive.
