I write in connection with regards to your Freedom of Information request. Below is your request and our response.
- How many watches were recorded as stolen in 2023 and 2024? Please provide figures for each year.
2023 – 130
2024 – 105
Based on the HO report category = 03 – Burglary, 04 – Robbery & 05 – Theft and Handling Stolen Goods
- To note in the Property code keywords, we have included ‘Stolen’ and ‘Recovered’ as some watches may have been recovered but were not listed as stolen in the first place. If it was recovered, it indicates it was stolen in the first place.
*The data includes residential burglaries, shoplifting, theft of mail etc.
- What was the combined value of these watches? Please provide figures for each year.
2023 – £47,452.97 - 29% of records contained a value
2024 – £27,164.99 – 25% of records contained a value
- To note the majority of the time, the value of the watch is not recorded, hence we have provide a percentage of when it was recorded to give the data better definition. Victims are not asked to substantiate the value of the watch so we do not know how accurate the data is.
- What number of watches recorded as stolen in 2023 and 2024 were recovered?
No information held/not recorded
- To note we are unable to answer this as the data is too unreliable and not captured in one area, so may be recorded in different areas in the system by different officers or may not be recorded at all.
- What number of watches reported stolen in 2023 and 2024 involved some form of violence against the owner/person wearing the watch?
No information held/not recorded
- To note we are unable to answer this as the crimes are not recorded in this way. Violence against a person may not have a record for watch stolen.
- What number of watches reported stolen in 2023 and 2024 have resulted in the fatality of the victim?
No information held/not recorded
- To note we are unable to answer this for the reasons above and that homicide is recorded on a different system. If the victim has died the death crime is recorded and it does not always record if a watch was stolen.
