I write in connection with regards to your Freedom of Information request. Below is your request and our response.
1) Please state for the calendar year 2024 how many of the following crimes were alleged to have occurred and were recorded by your force as happening in a) Sports Direct and b) JD Sports shops:
Assault offences to include all assault offences
5D – Assault with intent to cause serious harm - 0
8N – Assault with injury - 3
8P – Racially or religiously aggravated assault with injury - 0
105A – Assault without injury - 1
105B – Racially or religiously aggravated assault without injury - 0
Please note I am only interested in assaults which involved members of the public assaulting employees of Sports Direct or JD Sports within store premises.
The data should be broken down by whether the assault happened in Sports Direct or JD Sports.
2) In addition, please provide me with a verbatim copy of the “investigation summary field” and/or the modus operandi (MO) for the 10 most recent cases. I understand these will have to be redacted to remove private information.

Whilst attempting to detain the suspect for shoplifting, the suspect has scratched the victim on his hand causing ABH level injuries. |

during the hours of daylight on a weekend the suspect has entered the victims store from an unknown direction. The suspect has argued with the victim over money before swinging at the victim with a razor blade causing injury. The victim has then restrained to suspect to the ground until police arrived and arrested the male. |

Police received a report from manager reporting that the security staff had a male detained on the ground following assaulting staff and had threatened to pull a knife out. Staff member has proceeded to attempt to escort male from the doorway to which male has kicked staff in the leg. Male has subsequently been taken to the ground and detained whilst police were called. Whilst being detained, male has proceeded to pull staff's hand to his mouth and bite, causing injuries consistent with ABH. |

DURING STATED TIMES I/P STAFF MEMBER AT JD SPORTS HAS CHASED SUSPECT WHO HAD STOLEN ITEMS FROM STORE. AS I/P HAS BEEN TRYING TO RECOVER THE STOLEN ITEMS FROM SUSPECT, SUSPECT HAS ELBOWED I/P IN THE FACE. NO VISIBLE INJURIES. |
