I write in connection with regards to your Freedom of Information request. Below is your request and our response.
Please confirm how many cars were recorded in each year 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 and how many cars in each year were recovered
Yes I mean, how many cars were recorded as stolen for each of these years and how many of these stolen cars were then recovered/found by the police.
Answer
This is a count based on the Vehicle reference, where the vehicle role contains 'Stolen', with the offence category being '03 - Burglary', '04 - Robbery' or '05 - Theft and Handling Stolen Goods'. Unrelated crime types have been removed to improve accuracy (i.e. Theft of mail, Shoplifting, Theft from Person etc). To identify cars that have been stolen and then recovered, the vehicle role name contains 'recovered'.
