A 42-year-old woman was on Witton Park when an altercation occurred with a man who was known to her.
The man is then alleged to have assaulted the woman causing minor injuries, he then got into a silver Mercedes-Benz and drove away.
The assault occurred at some time between 1pm and 2.30pm on Saturday 16 March.
Officers have been conducting numerous enquiries and are appealing to members of the public for information that could assist with their investigation.
They are particularly keen for CCTV or dash cam footage on Witton Park and Overton Way at around the time the assault occurred that shows the Mercedes-Benz and a Vauxhall Astra.
A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on bail.
