A man was arrested with the help of police dog Keira during the early hours of this morning, after a report was made of a person attempting to break in to parcel lockers in Berwick Hills, Middlesbrough.
Around 1:40am this morning, Monday 22nd July, officers received a report of the attempted break-in and Matrix Team officers attended with PD Keira.
A man was apprehended in some bushes by the dog and was found in possession of suspected stolen items, some which are believed to have been taken in a previous burglary.
The 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft and burglary.
Superintendent Darren Bainbridge from Cleveland Police’s Matrix Team, said: “Our Matrix Team dog units are an invaluable asset to Cleveland Police and our communities in tackling criminality.
“I commend the drive and determination of PD Kiera, her handler and the officers who deployed to this incident who were able to quickly detain a suspect.
“We will not stop pursuing those who are intent on committing crime and will seek every opportunity to bring them to justice. We would like to thank the public for their continued support and help.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, or independent charity Crimestoppers online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org or call 0800 555 111.
