Officers have spoken to the parents of children who have been causing anti-social behaviour (ASB) towards members of the public and shop owners in and around Eston Square.
It comes following numerous reports in the last week of groups of youths congregating on the High Street to intimidate passers-by.
The youths – who have been gathering late at night outside takeaways with their faces covered by scarfs and hoods – were identified by officers from the Greater Eston Neighbourhood Team who have already submitted 24 ASB forms to their parents or on occasion taken the child home.
Enquiries are continuing to identify the remaining youths in the areas and inform parents of their behaviour.
Inspector Zoe Kelsey, from Eston Police Station, said: “We will not allow anti-social behaviour to take place in our community. We are working with Redcar and Cleveland Council as well as housing providers to target and deter the youths.
“Parents whose children are causing this criminality could be issued tenancy warnings and acceptable behaviour agreements will be drawn up in relation to these issues.
“With the school summer holidays only just beginning we are urging parents to know where their children are and that they will be held accountable for their child’s actions if found to be committing this kind of behaviour.”
If you have information relating to anti-social behaviour in your community, please report it to Cleveland Police by calling 101.
Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
