Vehicle Defects found During Safety Checks

Safety checks throughout May have highlighted a number of vehicles which needed work to ensure they are safe and in good condition for being on the road.

The Matrix Team carried out the operation to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy, and in most cases were able to offer motorists the chance to rectify any minor defects without prosecution via the Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme (VDRS).

Photos show a tyre found to have ply and cord exposed. The driver was issued with a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) which incurs penalty points on the drivers’ licence and a fine.

During the operation, there were thirteen defects found and dealt with via the Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme, Traffic Offence Reports were issued for one vehicle with bald tyres and one with a dangerous load.

Fixed penalty notices were issued for driving without an MOT, an overweight vehicle and window tints being above the legal limit.

There was also advice given around a nail found in a tyre and window tints.

Matrix Team Sergeant Scott Pearson said: “With this operation we have looked at vehicles to determine whether they were safe enough for our roads. In some minor cases, educating drivers and offering advice has been suitable, but in others it has been more appropriate to issue fixed penalties or Traffic Offence Reports.

“We will continue with our operations to ensure that people can be safe as possible on our roads, not only for drivers but for all road users.”
