Vehicles Seized in Proactive Crackdown in Middlesbrough

The vehicles below are some of those seized by Middlesbrough Proactive Team officers during March.

Aswell as carrying out normal proactive duties in targeting class A drug dealers, the team were also tackling the illegal, criminal and antisocial use of the roads.

Those seized below include:

• A Vauxhall Corsa van without insurance on Grange Road. The driver was reported for no licence or insurance.
• An Audi driver without insurance on Kildare Street. The driver was issued a Traffic Offence Report.
• A van driver seen texting whilst driving on Ayresome Street – when stopped it was found that there was also no insurance in place and the vehicle was seized.
• Two men arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and driving offences after the Volkswagen they were in reportedly tried to make off from police on Burlam Road. The car was found abandoned and a bag located nearby contained a large amount of suspected crack cocaine and heroin.
• A van driver found to be driving without a licence or insurance on Newport Road.
• A Vauxhall Corsa driver without a licence or insurance.
• An off-road bike seized after being stopped on St Pauls Road.
• A Vauxhall Corsa failed to stop for police on Linthorpe Road, and was driven at speed before being abandoned on Stoneyhurst Avenue. A man was arrested in connection with the incident and bailed for further enquiries.

Proactive Team Sergeant John Sproson said: “We work hard in Middlesbrough to reduce crime and anti social behaviour, and whilst we primarily tackle class A drug dealers, we also remove illegal vehicles from the roads  which were suspected of being driven illegally.

“Often, vehicle crime can be linked to more serious offending and so we will continue our proactive approach to stopping vehicles and remove those that are illegally being driven on Middlesbrough’s roads, to tackle criminals and protect people.”
