Matrix officers are escorting an abnormal load when it leaves Teesport in Middlesbrough at around 7am on Sunday morning, 31st August.
The cargo, a supergrid transformer for Overton substation, weighs 200 tonnes and will be transported on a specialist vehicle over 80 metres long, travelling at an extremely low speed.
The first transformer heading to the substation was transported along the same route back in early July.
The vehicle will travel along the road network via A19 southbound, past Thirsk, Thormanby and Shipton before arriving at Overton Substation on Overton Road.
The full route is detailed below:
• Tees Port, Tees Dock Rd (port of delivery)
• First exit at Tees Port roundabout to join A1053
• Third exit at roundabout to continue on A1053/Greystone Rd
• Second exit at soundabout to join A174
• The vehicle will continue on the A174, then take first exit at the Parkway Interchange to join A19 southbound
• Thirsk Interchange, taking the exit to continue onto the A19
• Continue south on the A19, taking a right hand turn after the village of Shipton by Beningbrough
• Left hand turn onto Overton Road
• Overton Substation (delivery point)
Please plan any journeys in this direction carefully and try to take an alternative route where possible if you think that you will be travelling at the same time. The cargo will be travelling at a very slow pace and you don't want to get stuck behind it!
Thank you for your patience. 🙏
