Victims of domestic abuse who report incidents to Cleveland Police now have the option to speak to our officers through a video call.
By using Rapid Video Response (RVR), officers can engage with victims through a video call to help make the process easier, more efficient, and less intrusive.
When a member of the public calls our control room to report domestic abuse, the call taker will conduct an assessment to see whether the caller is suitable for RVR.
If suitable, they will be put through to a dedicated RVR officer who will ask what has happened, ensure any safeguarding is addressed and explain what will happen next.
Temporary Chief Superintendent Martin Hopps said: “This process is about putting victims first and at the heart of everything we do. RVR is easy, efficient and much less intrusive. Those who have already used it have provided really positive feedback.
“Tackling domestic abuse and protecting people are key priorities for Cleveland Police. If you’re experiencing domestic abuse, please report it to us. Our officers will listen to you, believe you, and support you.”
You can report domestic abuse to Cleveland Police 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and there are also excellent local organisations who can help you.
You can use the 101 number to contact Cleveland Police at any time - but always use 999 in an emergency.
