Ashley Wilkinson threw missiles at police officers at the disorder in Hartlepool on Wednesday 31 July and then in Sunderland on Friday 2 August.
The 35-year-old was seen on CCTV footage in Hartlepool wearing a St George’s flag with his face covered when he repeatedly threw items at a line of officers while armed with a baton.
A few days later he joined in the Sunderland protests by hurling bricks at officers who were guarding a mosque in Hylton Road and throwing a metal fence towards them on Keel Square.
Wilkinson was arrested a week later in Sunderland at a protest in Newcastle. He had various items in his backpack including ball bearings and cannabis.
On Monday 20 January he appeared at Newcastle Crown Court to be sentenced to six years after pleading guilty to rioting and violent disorder.
