These images show two dangerous/insecure loads which our officers on mobile patrols spotted yesterday.
Every day Cleveland Police receives reports of debris on our roads - up to around 400 instances a year - and these are often as a result of drivers failing to secure their loads correctly, with items then falling onto the carriageway.
This poses significant risks to other road users as well as to the police and highways officers who are called upon to recover the items.
If you are found driving with an insecure load you could receive 3 points and £100 fine, or you could be summonsed to court.
There’s lots of guidance online on how to deal with loads safely.
In the first incident yesterday morning, Matrix officers in the Low Lane area saw a Ford Transit carrying household goods stacked up in an unsafe manner.
They stopped the vehicle and issued the driver with a traffic offence report (TOR) for an insecure load. He was also given advice on how to safely secure any future loads.
Later in the day, at around 12.15pm, further mobile patrols on Yarm High Street saw a Ford Transit being driven by a man who was not wearing his seatbelt. The vehicle was stopped, and it was discovered that the flatbed contained various items including loose wood and scaffolding poles which hadn’t been safely secured.
This driver was issued with a fixed penalty notice for not wearing his seatbelt and a ROR for the insecure load. He too received advice on how to transport items safely.
We’ll continue to take appropriate action to keep our roads safe for all.
