A 29-year-old man has been sentenced after being spotted by Proactive Team officers inhaling nitrous oxide in the passenger seat of a car in Middlesbrough.
On Tuesday 13th August 2024, officers spotted Ryan Rule, of Brettenham Avenue in Middlesbrough, in a car park off Saltersgill Avenue inhaling the class C drug around midday.
Officers spoke with Rule, and found a further cannister of nitrous oxide in the boot of the vehicle. As officers searched a wash bag found in the boot, Rule snatched the bag from the officer and attempted to make off.
After a struggle with officers, Rule, who actively resisted officers and refused to release the bag he had snatched, was arrested.
The bag was found to contain suspected cocaine valued at over £7,300.
He was later charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs and was remanded.
*** Ryan Rule has now been jailed ***
At Teesside Crown Court on Friday 28th February, Rule was sentenced to three years in prison.
Sergeant John Sproson, from Middlesbrough Proactive Team, said: “I am pleased with the sentence handed to Ryan Rule. Our pursuit of those peddling in Class A drugs in our communities continues, and we will put those responsible in front of the courts wherever possible.”
Anyone with information regarding drugs activity in their local area is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling 0800 555 111.
