A 34-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of non-recent sexual offences – some against a primary school age child.
An investigation into Daniel Dixon began following complaints to police in March 2023 and he was quickly arrested and questioned.
However he denied any wrong-doing and was bailed whilst extensive enquiries got underway.
A second victim then came forward reporting Dixon had offended against them while they were a teenager and he was further arrested and interviewed in connection with these allegations.
The offences took place in both the Cleveland and the North Yorkshire areas.
Both victims were offered specialist support from our expert colleagues at ARCH Teesside as well as being kept up to date with developments as the investigation progressed, with Dixon being charged in July 2024.
He attended court where he continued to deny his actions however earlier this month a jury found him guilty of:
Two counts of rape of a child under 13
Being an offender under 18 who caused a child under 13 to watch a sexual act
Rape of a victim aged 16 years or over.
Dixon was immediately placed on the sex offenders’ register while he waited to be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court.
Speaking after sentencing today, officer in the case Detective Sergeant Claire McNeill said: “The victims in this case suffered considerable trauma from what they went through but I must commend their bravery in coming forward to report to police and I thank them for their support throughout our lengthy investigation.
“Dixon added to their stress and pain by continuing to deny what he had done but I’m relieved that a jury has now convicted him and that he’ll spend a considerable amount of time in prison.
“I do hope the victims share my relief and they can be further reassured that on his eventual release, Dixon will be subject to lifelong and strict conditions. We will be monitoring him closely and will take decisive action on any breaches.”
