The scam involves messages claiming to offer winter fuel payments or energy rebates.
It comes as the colder months approach and an opportunity for fraudsters to take advantage of members of the public.
Residents may receive emails or text messages that appear to be either from the Department for Work and Pension (DWP), Gov.uk or energy companies.
These messages often claim that you are ‘eligible’ for a winter fuel payment or that you need to update your bank details to receive a rebate.
Victims will then be asked to click on a link that is directed to a false website designed to steal personal and financial information.
