Unfortunately our officers are still attending incidents daily where debris has fallen onto our roads after drivers have failed to secure their goods safely and appropriately.
We’re reminding anyone who transports goods to ensure their loads are carried securely and not to rely on the items’ weight alone.
This vehicle was stopped by officers yesterday in the Haverton Hill area when they saw its noticeably insecure load.
On speaking with the driver, he was also found to have neither a driving licence nor vehicle insurance.
And following a roadside test, the 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving (cannabis), driving without a licence, driving without insurance and driving a motor vehicle with a load likely to cause a danger to other road users.
He was bailed pending further enquiries, and the vehicle was seized.
We urge anyone transporting goods or items to ensure these are being carried safely and appropriately.
Insecure loads can put the drivers, other road users and police and highways officers at risk – the latter often have to go onto busy carriageways to retrieve goods which have fallen from vehicles.
Yesterday’s stop demonstrates that a simple traffic stop by police can quickly lead to other offences being identified - often with serious consequences and the loss of a vehicle!
