Five more people have been arrested as detectives continue to work tirelessly as part of extensive enquiries into the incident in Middlesbrough.

It was reported that a vehicle collided with a pedestrian at around 11.55am on Tuesday 21st April on Borough Road, Middlesbrough. The pedestrian suffered injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

Following this, additional reports were received of an ongoing fight between several men, some believed to be armed with bladed weapons.

Officers swiftly attended the scene and arrested a 27‑year‑old man in connection with the incident. In the early hours of this morning, he was interviewed by detectives and was charged with affray, driving with no insurance and no licence. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before court today (Wednesday 22nd April).

As the investigation progressed throughout the evening, detectives carried out further enquiries which led to the arrest of four men, aged between 31 and 33, and a 27-year-old woman.

They have been arrested on suspicion of a range of serious offences including attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, possession with intent to supply drugs, and firearms offences. All remain in police custody currently.

Today, specially trained search officers and forensic teams will be expediting further searches as part of the investigation, while detectives continue to interview suspects and pursue outstanding lines of enquiry.

Local neighbourhood officers have increased patrols in Middlesbrough town centre, and we would encourage anyone who has any concerns or information to approach them.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector John Bonner, who is overseeing the investigation, said: “My teams have worked relentlessly through the night and continue their enquiries today to ensure those responsible are identified and brought before the courts.

“I am grateful to the community and our key partners for continuing to place their trust in policing and for the support shown to officers carrying out enquiries.

“We remain determined to protect our communities from violence, and I would continue to urge anyone who has information that could assist us to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 074635. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, mobile phone, or dash‑cam footage from the area around the time of the incident.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111. Footage can be uploaded here: Appeal for footage and information following incident in Middlesbrough | Cleveland Investigate | Community Portal
