A man was walking alone in Pallister Park when a Pitbull type dog – without its owner – ran towards him.
He was bitten on the arm and dragged to the ground before being repeatedly bitten.
Afterwards the dog ran away in an unknown direction. A member of the public passing by found the man laid on the ground and an ambulance was called.
The incident took place at around 11.50pm on Wednesday 24 June.
Investigating officer, PC Davison, said: “Since the report was made, we have started making enquiries in a bid to identify the owner and locate the dog.
“At this stage we are unsure of the whereabouts of the dog and would encourage anyone resides in the area and may know who the owner is to get in touch.
“I would also ask anyone who has seen the dog to get in touch with us.”
