A rapist who left a woman fearing for her life as he strangled her and repeatedly assaulted her has been handed an 18 year sentence.
Jeremiah Parchment, 46, was arrested and charged with a string of offences after the victim bravely came forward to report to police what had happened to her.
The victim was repeatedly raped, violently assaulted and strangled, during which she believed she was going to die.
Parchment denied the charges put to him but, thankfully, the jury saw through his lies and found him guilty of numerous offences including three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), two counts of rape and three counts of intentional strangulation.
The 46-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Crown Court on Friday 5th June for sentencing.
Investigating officer Temporary Detective Constable Terri Seymour said: “The victim was subjected to repeated and, at times, life-threatening acts, including strangulation, alongside terrifying threats.
“I would like to commend the victim for her determination and courage in coming forward and supporting this investigation. The strength she has shown throughout has been remarkable and the quality of her evidence has been instrumental in securing convictions.
“While no sentence can undo the harm caused, I hope this result provides her with a sense of justice and an opportunity to begin moving forward with her life.”
