A 35-year-old Loftus man who was wanted on warrant by East Cleveland neighbourhood police team (NPT) officers - and who they wanted to speak to regarding reports of thefts from a local retailer - was arrested over the weekend.
NPT enquiries had identified the man as a potential suspect for the retail crime and work continued to locate him so he could be interviewed about the reports.
The goods reported stolen included meat, loo roll, beer and cookies and following interview, the man was charged yesterday (Monday 28th September) with six counts of shoplifting.
This also constituted a breach of the criminal behaviour order (CBO) the man was already subject to, so he was further charged with five breaches of CBO.
The man was remanded in police custody and is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court today, Tuesday 29th September
Redcar & East Cleveland Neighbourhoods Inspector Neil Deluce said: “We’ll continue to support our local retailers by taking action against anyone suspected of shoplifting. Equally, anyone who is under a CBO will face consequences - which could include a fine or even imprisonment – should the court find them guilty of breaching the order’s conditions.”
